Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Life Legacy Janice L. Salsman, 57, of Laceyville, PA, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on February 25, 2016, at VNA Hospice Care in Scranton after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 6, 1958, in Wellsboro, PA, the daughter of Beverly Ervin Wintermute Berdy and the late Kenneth R. Wintermute. She grew up in Tunkhannock, PA, and graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1976. She had worked as a unit clerk at both Towanda Hospital and Guthrie Clinic in Sayre. For about her last 20 years, she worked as rural mail carrier, initially out of the Towanda Post Office and more recently out of the Mehoopany and Meshoppen Post Offices. Janice loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed being outdoors, especially gardening and walking in the woods. She had a talent for drawing and sketching, and she also loved sewing and needlepoint. She always had crafts on hand for her beloved grandchildren to play with when visiting, and loved to take them for walks in the woods. Her Christmas dinners will long be remembered, not only for her wonderful cooking, but for the Christmas spirit and love with which her home was always filled. She was a very kind and caring person who was always willing to help someone in need. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Wintermute, in 2015, and by her daughter-in-law, Patricia Eberlin Kunkle, in 2013. Janice is survived by her loving husband of three years, Kelvin Salsman of Laceyville, who was the love of her life and her caregiver for the last several months of her life. She is also survived by her sons, Scott Kunkle of Chester, PA, and Jeffrey Kunkle and fiancé Katie Merritt of Towanda, PA; stepdaughter Danica Martin and husband Mike, and stepson Shane Salsman; her mother, Beverly Berdy and stepfather, Harry Berdy, of Tunkhannock; and her sister, Audrey Mazzarella and husband Joseph of Bainbridge, NY. She had 5 beautiful grandchildren as well: Scott’s children - Keegan, Damon, and Aurora, and Jeffrey and Katie’s children – Benjamin and Bella. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock with Rev. Charles Bishop officiating.
