Obituary of Orland Frederick Sayre

Please share a memory of Orland to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Orland Frederick Sayre, of Tunkhannock, passed away at home Saturday, January 7th . Born in Cape May NJ, he was a son of the late Louis James and Gertrude Simpkins Sayre. His wife of 66 years is Dorothy Grace Hamson Sayre. After graduating from Cape May High School he was trained in the tool and die trade and attended Temple, Drexel and Penn State Universities. He was employed by Schrader-Bellows as a sales engineer until his retirement in 1987. Orland was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Louis, Norman, Thomas, and James Sayre. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by sons; Andrew J. and wife Janet, Rodger C. and wife Mary, daughters; Jeanne K. and husband Shannon Nichols and Barbara R. and husband David Grosvenor, sister; Gertrude E. Davis, brother Jonathan (Jack) F. Sayre, twenty-five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Orland accepted Christ as his Savior at age twenty-one which was evident in his lifestyle. He was a wonderful father, and spiritual leader, teaching and encouraging his kids to be good students, athletes and hard workers. Always a gentleman and a gentle man, he never complained, even as he suffered at the end of his life. He was happiest when he had a child on his lap or was showing them one of his projects. Talented in many areas, he could fix just about anything. He built the home he and Dorothy lived in for 40 years and was involved in the PTA, active in the Tunkhannock Booster Club, and pioneered filming of high school football games. He served as deacon, treasurer and trustee at the Osterhout Bible Church. Dad will be sorely missed but the promise that we will be reunited gives us hope. A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church, Tunkhannock, PA on January 28, 2012, 11:00am, with Pastor Brian Williams, Osterhout Bible Church and Pastor Mike Putney, Windsor Bible Baptist Church, Windsor, NY officiating. Interment was in Prevost Cemetery, Tunkhannock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Wyoming County, PO Box 73, Tunkhannock, PA, 18657 or Osterhout Bible Church, c/o Mrs. Sandy Callwitts, Box 204 St. Rt. 29 N., Tunkhannock, PA, 18657.
