Charles George James, 90 years old, of 49 Chestnut Street, Tunkhannock passed away on Friday, May 7th at Mercy Tyler Hospital. A native of Ipswich, England he was a World War 2 veteran, serving in the Grenadier Guards and was on the last boat to leave Dunkirk. Charles spent twenty one years as a magistrate in England and served as a County Councilor, representing his home county of Suffolk for ten years. In 1991 Charles immigrated to America to be near his family and again took up voluntary service. Mercy Tyler Hospital, Roslund Elementary School and the Tunkhannock Senior Center were just three activities to which he contributed his time. He was the recipient of the Mary Dreisbach award through the RSVP program in 2006 and served as an ombudsman for that organization. He was also the recipient of the President's Lifetime Service award for volunteerism. He is survived by Beryl, his wife of 63 years, daughters Patricia and Susan, Sons-in-law David and Gary, grandson Matthew, granddaughter Melissa, husband Mark and great grandchildren Hannah and Joshua. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mercy Tyler Hospital, 880 SR 6 W, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
