Ernest C. Winnie of Bartron Rd, Tunkhannock, died Friday at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. He was Born in Meshoppen on June 21, 1918 son of the late Penn and Laura Canfield Winnie.
He attended the Meshoppen schools and was a Master Sergeant in the Army serving in Pearl Harbor during the invasion by the Japanese. He was employed as manager of the Austin Poultry Farm for twenty years and later became employed by the Wyoming County Sheriffs department. He also served as Chief of Police for Tunkhannock Borough from 1967 to 1979. He attended the Eaton Baptist Church in Tunkhannock.
He was preceded in death by sisters Stella Jenkins, Clara Aylesworth, and Frances Mort; brothers Edward and Donald.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years Janet Grosvenor. A daughter and son-in-law Memory and Bruce Arrowood of Mehoopany and Sebring FL.: two grandsons and granddaughter-in-laws Earl and Teresa Arrowood of Janesville, WI; Bruce and Kathryn Arrowood of Tunkhannock. Four great granddaughters, Amanda, Nichole, Kimberly, and Madison; and one great-grandson, Tyler. Three step grandchildren, Anna, Andrew, and Robert Cullen, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 AM from The Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. , 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Pastor Brian Hill, Pastor of the Eaton Baptist Church. Interment will be in Forkston Cemetery, Forkston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tyler Memorial Hospital, 880 SR 6 W., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 or to the Eaton Baptist Church, 829 SR 29 S, Tunkhannock, PA.
