George A. Franko VMD George A. Franko VMD of Nicholson died Sunday in the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit in Scranton. He was born in Duryea on February 7, 1931 son of the late George C. and Anna Evancho Franko. He was a graduate of Falls Overfield High School class of 1949, Penn State University class of 1954 and a 1956 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. Prior to his retirement in 1984 he owned a solo practice in Spring House, Pa. He was member of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Association, American Veterinary Association and St. Patrick’s Church, in Nicholson. He was preceded in death by a brother Cyril Franko. Surviving is his wife of 54 years Jean Myers Franko, sons and daughter in law, Wayne and Patricia, of Dillsburg, Pa., Jeffrey and Desiree’ of Blue Bell, Pa., George Fredric and Claudia, of Troutville, Va., sister Esther Zavrotny of Falls, Pa., 5 grandsons Lowell, of Columbus, Ohio, Kyle, Taylor and Cody, of Blue Bell, Pa. and Grant of Dillsburg, Pa. a niece and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church in Nicholson at 12 noon. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lake Winola. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to Mercy Healthcare Hospice Fund, 746 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18501 or to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Nicholson, Pa.
