Wayne A. Montross of 110 Bluegrass Dr, Tunkhannock died Monday at Hospice Community Care at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Tunkhannock, Pa. on April 6, 1946 son of the late John and Ida Wadsworth Montross.
Wayne was a 1965 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, and earned a certificate in the Operation of Heavy Equipment from American Training Services, Inc in Cherry Hill, NJ. He was one of the originators and leaders of a local Bluegrass band that played in many local venues across the area. He had a real passion for the guitar and was a key player in the regular âpickingâ sessions with his band-mates. He was also well known for his signature cowboy hat(s) and great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Montross Dymond.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years Martha Strohl Montross, son and daughter in law, John and Kelly Montross, Leesburg, VA, daughters, Sharon Montross, Tunkhannock, PA, Carol Montross, Houston TX, brother and sister in law Harold and Doris Montross, Centermoreland, PA.
Wayne is also survived by three grandchildren, John Tyler Montross, Hannah Montross and Tammy Belcher.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday January 15th from 2-4 pm at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St. in Tunkhannock with a Memorial Service to be held at 4 pm. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
