Obituary of Leonard James Matylewicz

Leonard James Matylewicz, 87, died Thursday at home. He and his wife, the former Evelyn Mae Herron, were married for 59 years. Born in Lake Winola on July 15, 1921 he was the son of the late Adam and Helen (Kazmierski) Matylewicz. He was an army veteran serving during WWII and retired from the post office after 28 years as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of St Mary’s of the Lake Church, Lake Winola and The American Legion Post 457 Tunkhannock. He loved hunting with his son’s, grandchildren, and relatives. Surviving are two sons, Duane and Francis of Lake Winola; three daughters Jane Slocum of Lake Winola, Dinah Kintner of Mehoopany, and Elizabeth Andron of California. One brother Robert Matylewicz of Lake Winola; three sisters Eleanor Puza, Thelma Shebby, and Sally Palmer all of Lake Winola; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Vincent Matylewicz and brothers Bernard, Carl, Jerry and Adam Matalavy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 am at St Mary’s of the Lake Church, Lake Winola. Interment will be in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Montdale, PA. Friends may call at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock on Sunday from 3 – 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
