Robert D. Barber Sr. 86, of Tunkhannock died Thursday, December 27 at Kingston Commons. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Jane Adams Barber.
Born in West Pittston, PA on August 24, 1926 he was the son of the late Eugene and Dorothy Brace Barber.
He was a graduate of Wyoming High School, received a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Wilkes College and later become a Certified Public Accountant. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Hughestown.
He was employed by Sordoni Construction Co. as the Vice President of Finance, and retired from Commonwealth Telephone Company as Treasurer.
Robert served on the Board of Directors of the former Wyoming National Bank and of the Home / Health Services of Luzerne County. He was also a former member of the Pittston Kiwanis Club, the Scranton Canoe Club and the Lake Winola Cottagers Association where he served as a director while enjoying many summers at the family cottage at Lake Winola.
Robert became a Gentleman farmer after retirement working on his horse farm. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be missed by all. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors by attending many equestrian events, basketball, football games and other sporting activities.
He was also preceded in death by his son in-law Chip Bunnell and a brother Eugene. He is survived by his son Robert Jr. and wife Eileen, of Lake Winola and daughter Susan Bunnell, of Tunkhannock, grandchildren Robert III, Michael, and Kelly Barber, Julie Jenkins, Kaitlyn Kettell and great grandchildren Adison and Nikolette.
Funeral services will be held on Monday December 31 at 10:00 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 West Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA with Pastor Jim Pall of the Huntsville United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery, Harding at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
