Jane Morgan Shoemaker, a resident of Lake Carey, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 4, 2013 after visiting with her loving family. She was 95 years old and would have celebrated her 96th birthday this Wednesday. She was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa on March 6, 1917 daughter of the late David and Sara Watson Morgan. Jane was a graduate of St. Ann's Academy in Wilkes Barre, Pa. and attended Misericordia College. She worked at Tyler Memorial Hospital as Head of Credit and Admissions from 1967 until her retirement in 1983. Afterwards she continued to work at TreeHab in Tunkhannock for several more years until she retired. She was also a founding member of the Tewksbury committee, a supporter of the Olympics which also commemorated the late Dr. John Tewksbury who was an Olympic Gold Medal winner. Jane was also active at St. Peters Church and served on the Vestry. She also served on the Tunkhannock Library Board. She had a passion for art and was prolific painter and had exhibits of her work in Laceyville and in Tunkhannock. Jane was the wife of the late John A. Shoemaker also of Wilkes Barre. After World War II she moved with her family to Ardmore, Pa and later to Wynnewood, PA before returning to Lake Carey in 1967. She was preceded in death by her son John A. Shoemaker, Jr. She is survived by her children Sara S. Abbruzzi (Joseph) of Gulph Mills, Pa., Lindsey Place (Larry) of Tunkhannock, and David N. Shoemaker (Linda) also of Gulph Mills, PA., daughter-in-law Candy Shoemaker of Chicago, IL; grandchildren AJ, David, Sara, Christopher, Brooke, Jay, Maura and Jaime; four great grandchildren Julianna, Alex, Katey and Lily. A Memorial service will be held at 10 am on March 9th at St. Peter's Church in Tunkhannock with Rev. Lou Divis presiding. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until the time of the service.
