Jean S. Pope of Tunkhannock died at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA on Sunday, November, 19, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.

Jean was born in Clifton Springs. NY on May 30. 1931, daughter of Raymond and Edna (Fisher) Wright of Newark, NJ. She was a 1953 graduate of Cornell University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Agriculture were se majored in horticulture.

Jean was then a successful homemaker in Chester, NJ for many years. She maintained her horticultural interests as a member of the National Herb Society, volunteering in the Tempe Wick gardens in Morristown Historical Park, our country’s first National Historic Park. She then was able to share all her floricultural and organizational talents as the Founder of Volunteers at The Cross Estate Gardens in Bernardsville, NJ. The Gardens are a project of the New Jersey Historical Garden Foundation. After moving to PA in 1996, she has continued to be involved in the activities of the Foundation as an honorary member of the Board.


She is survived by Daniel, her husband of nearly 65 years and her daughters Susan Balentine (Jeffrey) and their son Reed of Annapolis, MD, Amy Arnold (Ricky) and their son Seth of Ridgeway, VA and Emily Maseeh (George) and their children Jeffrey and Michelle of Tucson, AZ.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to The Cross Estate Gardens, P.O. Box 712, Bernardsville, NJ 07924 or to the charity of your choice.
