Obituary of Katherine A. Felker

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Katherine (Kathi) Bialczak Felker, 43, of Scott Township, was called home to God, surrounded by her loving husband, children, and family, after a 10-year courageous battle with brain cancer.

After a lifelong journey, Kathi met the love of her life, her soulmate, Robert (Bob) Felker and united their two families when they were married on October 1, 2011.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Ellen Dunleavy Bialczak, Lake Ariel and Paul Bialczak, Moscow. She was a 1993 graduate of North Pocono High School. During high school she led the youth choir at St. Catherine of Siena Parish for four years and also received the Youth Ministry Award from Bishop Timlin.

Kathi received her Bachelors of Elementary Education from the University of Scranton. She received her Masters of Educational Administration K-12 from Wilkes University. She continued on to receive her Masters in Reading Specialist from the University of Scranton and a Masters in Educational Studies from Wilkes University. Marywood University is where Kathi achieved her goal of obtaining her Certifications in Curriculum Studies and Superintendent.

Kathi started at the Tunkhannock Area School District in 2005 as a Title I Reading Specialist. While at Tunkhannock, Kathi held many positions, however she felt she made the most impact on the lives of her students when she became principal at Evans Falls and Mill City Elementary Schools. The tremendous outpouring of love and support of her students and staff helped Kathi during some of her most difficult days. No matter what kind of treatments she endured, she could not wait to get back to school to see “her kids”.

Kathi was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend and a woman who made everybody she met feel like family. Kathi epitomized unconditional love. Everyone she came in contact with felt the love, kindness, and compassion that was truly Kathi.  She had a heart of gold and a warrior spirit. No matter what obstacles Kathi faced, she always made sure her family continued being her first priority. There are not enough words to describe how much she will be missed.

Also surviving are daughters, Alicia Kohut and Amanda Kohut, both of Scranton; sons, Austin Kohut, at home; Justin Felker, Scranton; Tim Felker (Bre Sechrist), Tunkhannock; Rob Felker, Harrisburg; Phillip (Bubba) Felker (Marley Mason), Laceyville.   Grandchildren: Eric, Darren, Peyton, Aaliyah, and Julia. A brother, Paul Bialczak, Scranton. Mother-in-law, Margaret Felker, Tunkhannock; Sisters-in-law, Cindy Ball, Canton, GA; Bonnie Felker, Marion, OH; Michaelle (Jeff) Cox, Tunkhannock; Brenda (Christopher) Mills, Tunkhannock. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Kathi was preceded in death by her Father-in-law, Jacob Felker; Brother-in-law, William Jacob Felker; maternal grandparents Charles and Ann Dunleavy and paternal grandparents, Henry and Marian Bialczak; an uncle, Matthew Lutak, and her special “Aunt Susie” Dunleavy.
