I remember seeing Jane and Hollie at KSRA conferences as well as International Reading/Literacy Association conferences. As many people from PA as we could find would gather for dinner. Those days will be just fond memories now.

Our family was blessed with the gift of knowing and spending time with Jane on our Lake Carey vacations. We enjoyed many meals and boat rides with her. We talked about a fall trip to the lake and she asked us to let her know so she could join us. She said it was her favorite time of year on the lake and was excited to share it with us. Jane was always willing and ready to get you what was needed to have fun and then to join you in the fun. We will miss her very much. Rest In Peace dear Jane. knowing you was a gift & you lived life well!

So shocked and saddened by this news. Coach, as I knew her, was a great person, loved her job and her track teams! She coached my daughter over 10 years ago and every Time I saw her, she asked how my daughter was doing even after all those years! She cared! She remembered her "kids"! Fly high Coach!

I was so shocked to hear of Jane’s passing.. How a woman so full of life and love could be taken so suddenly from us.. She was always smiling and eager to have conversations. I am so glad that I was able to see her at our family reunion just over a month ago. I didn’t realize that it would be the last time I would see her. My heartfelt sympathies are sent to her family and friends... She will be missed by so many people. There is a special lighthouse shining in heaven now..

I met Jane recently through KSLA. I could tell she was passionate and giving immediately. She gave me one of her lighthouse pins at our first meeting. I met her one other time—Sept. 22, 2018. I sent her pictures from a recent social event for our council—KSLA Central PA. Her presence will be sorely missed. I wish my deepest condolences to her family and friends. She clearly had quite an impact in her community. Now we are left to carry on her work in her memory. Prayers for your family in this time of grief and for the journey ahead.

I knew Jane through KSLA and had the privilege of being entertained at her lake house. She was a leader of literacy who took charge and got things done. Jane will be forever remembered in Pennsylvania as an advocate for children and teachers. My deepest and sincerest sympathies go out to her family and her dearest friend, Hollie.

I had the pleasure of Helman coaching me for 4 years. She was by my side through mental breakdowns, laughs, many tears, and 2 state meets. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. She was such a gift to be around and I’m thankful for her presence throughout my young adulthood. You will be very missed helman!

There are times I find myself saying a phrase that she once shared with me- "never say you can't, say you'll try, and then give it your best shot"....simple, powerful and impactful, it has stayed with me and helped me over the years....and probably always will be with me.....Thank you!

I will miss Jane so much. She and I had done a number of things together, such as breakfast at Springville Methodist Church, Music on the Lawn at Lake Winola, Gathering of Women, Lunch Bunch and were planning to do the "Pumpkin Trail" on October 20. Although our friendship was relatively recent, I will miss her terribly. It's not often in life that one makes a special friend!

As a teacher she was patient I struggled a lot with writing and reading. She always went above and beyond to make sure that learning was exciting. For me she uses that artistic /adventure side that sparked my interest to learn. Changing my pathway to a brighter life. I continued on to go to college have a great career and currently working on writing my very own book. The world needs more teachers with big hearts what a great woman forever thankful!

I am very sad to hear of Jane's passing. I was a graduate student from 2010-2013 and had more than a few classes with her. I was often tired and wasn't too enthused about being in a 3 hour class after a full day of work. However, Jane made you feel like you'd rather be in her class than anywhere else. Jane was understanding of my absences and the difficulty I had completing assignments when my son was born. Her love for us, her students, and her passion for childrens' literature was something you could feel just being in her presence and won't be something I ever forget. I like to think that Jane's legacy lives on in the classrooms of her former students, now teachers, and as they read bedtime stories to their own children each night. Jane will be greatly missed.

Ms Helman was a very fine coach and person. She was instrumental in making my daughter feel at home in her new school midway through her Junior year. She was encouraging and exacting- just what she needed at that time. My heartfelt condolences for your loss . May God bless and comfort you all.

Coach Helman was a large part of my teenage years, and I always assumed she'd be there around the lake whenever I came home. I'll miss seeing her, but her voice will always be in my mind. I'm grateful for all the time and effort she gave her athletes. We loved her.

My first day of grad school was the evening after my grandfather’s funeral and I showed up a mess. But I was fortunate that this first class was with Jane. I smiled for the first time in days as she acted out a children’s book. She pulled me aside after class and shared some very kind words, a lighthouse metaphor, that helped me during my moment of grief. I hope that this memory can offer some comfort in her loved ones’ moments of grief. Her students will keep her memory alive by passing on her love of literacy to our own students and children. I’m sending hugs to Jane’s family, friends, colleagues, and students.

Jane was a special lady who enjoyed her friends, lighthouses, and hosting meetings at her lake house. She loved taking her friends on a boat ride on the Lake, showing us the beautiful sunsets.
I was fortunate to have her as a friend. I enjoyed my extended stays at the lake and had fun just being with her and learning all the interesting things about her.
I will miss her greatly, but I know she is looking down on us and urging us to Read and Shine.
