John's life was one of caring, helping and leading others. At USNA his support and perspective (and guitar playing) helped a lot of us get through Plebe year. He went on to lead the Company with skill and calm. It is no wonder that he became a doctor and gave back so much to his fellow man. Honored to have had an ever so brief time with him. God rest your soul, John.

I am deeply saddened but not surprised by this news. When I spoke with John recently he explained his situation to me. I know that he is in a better place now.
John and I were room mates and friends. While we were in school, I spent a Christmas with him in Arkansas and he spent a Christmas with me in South Carolina. He was going to be the best man in my wedding but the snow in Arkansas prevented him from making it. The good times that we shared would fill a book.
He will be sorely missed by many and his friendship always cherished by me..

I met John in July 1959. He was my first roommate, a company mate, teammate and classmate at the Naval Academy. John's football career was shortened by a knee injury in his Second Class (Junior) year. His teammates honored John by electing him to be a Goat Keeper during our First Class (Senior) year. Goat Keepers are responsible for Navy's mascot, Bill the Goat, on the sidelines during Navy football games. The last time I saw John was in the fall 1964, John was assigned to the Naval Academy and he was taking Pre-Med courses at night. He was enthusiastic about beginning the next phase of his life.
Over the years, the Class of 1963 has gathered every five to ten years for reunions to reconnect and remember the relationships we formed at the Academy. Last month, we gathered in San Diego for our 55th Reunion. These reunions, also, serve to remind us that we are a family, as widows and children of deceased classmates attend. One of the most poignant aspects of our Reunion's Memorial Service is the reading of the names of Classmates that have passed away. And now John's will be read at future reunions and he will not be forgotten by the Class of 1963.
We will miss John

To Dr. McIntyre's Children,
There are not enough words to say what a wonderful man your father was. His compassion for those he took care of and all those babies he delivered and the Mom's was immeasurable. My Mom and I being one of those patients for many years, I can testify to his devotion. I worked with him at the Hospital also and I know he cared about Tyler Hospital and truly believed it was necessary in the community. He treated everyone with respect. He loved you children and spoke of all of you often with a smile on his face. He was one of the best Doctors this area will ever see, his intelligence was amazing. He was there for me many times in my life and I appreciate this. The world lost a truly gentle soul. Prayers to you to see you through this.
God Bless,
Carole Gardner-Rosenbaum

John McIntyre was a great listener--that was his essential approach to life. He was extraordinarily intelligent. His eyes and ears made him an amazing family physician and emergency room doctor--he saw and heard everything. He didn't miss anything that was happening in the exam room. I guess that's why he was such a great football player in his younger years.
John was a compassionate man who was not afraid to cry with his patients during those tough moments that we all sometimes have to face.
He was a wonderful asset to Wyoming County and its citizens for four decades. We will sorely miss him and his smile.
