Even when Sophie and I grew apart, I always thought about her and find myself thinking about her ever since I heard the news of her passing. We met at Marymount and instantly sooo many people wanted to be her friend. Just as she was described in the service, she really was a magnet. She was so effortlessly cool it inspired people; it inspired me. She could have been in with all of the "cooler" girls and set in a clique, but she didnt want that, she didn't care about any of those kinds of things. which made her even cooler. She was her own person and you knew it. After I left Marymount during our senior year, we became even closer, hanging out every single weekend. She became my rock as I went through such a hard time because of leaving Marymount. I think she sensed that and that's why we became so close. She introduced me to her friends outside of the bubble of Marymount and we became our own group of friends who hung out allll the time, running around the Palisades and Westwood and the beach! My best and most favorite memories of being in high school and growing up and becoming adults are with Sophie. One of the best was her 18th birthday at the beach, just super casual where everyone could come together as they pleased was the epitome of who she was. I miss her so much. Love you Soph.
xoxo, Ariel

I was Sophie’s Dean at the University of Scranton and knew her well. She was a bright, courageous, well-formed young lady, one of our very best. I remember advising her on her trip to Ghana and on starting her career on the west coast. My condolences to her parents and entire family. Dean Michael Mensah

I will always think of Sophie, as I do of all your girls, as part of our family. Her bright smiling face, her sense of mischief, and love for life are integral to my memories of raising our girls together on Larch Ave. The day you told us you were moving to LA was a dark day for us! I wish I had known her better as an adult and had more time to hear of her adventures in Africa, her many backpacking trips, and her search for meaning in life. She touched so many people in so many positive ways; I can’t believe she is gone. We love you all.

Bob and Family: Our EY Family has fond memories of Sophie. Her teammates loved working with her; she was a friend to all and carried herself with grace. Not surprisingly, similar to her academic achievements, she also excelled in all of her work. In her short amount of time with the firm, she made deep friendships with her peers who miss her greatly. We are all better for knowing her.

Cathy, Bob, Emily, and Eleanor,
Sophie's presence is sprinkled throughout all of my favorite memories of elementary school. I always loved walking up the path behind the school to split a bowl of Top Ramen back at your home, playing kickball and basketball at the school (and of course, I was no match against Sophie!), having a joint play date with our dogs, Sammy and Jake, visiting you all in Britain (and obviously visiting Platform 9 3/4 together), and the countless sleepovers we had. Sophie always had a way of making everything we did more fun and engaging, and she was one of the very best friends and best listeners around. Thank you for inviting me into your family and letting me and Sophie experience the joy and freedom of growing up together. I miss her dearly and am deeply grateful to have all these memories with her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sophie was always an inspiration for me. She brought so many people together and seemed to do so effortlessly, including everyone at VITA where I got to know her. She braved the world and showed you what was possible with just a bit of determination.
And any time I spent with her, whether it was volunteering, having a night out, or just talking between classes, she made every moment memorable and I know she had the same effect on all of you. Sophie left her mark and it is one we will remember forever.

Dear Cathy, Bob, Emily and Eleanor -
I have etched in my memory a beautiful young Sophie running the soccer fields or exploding across the swimming pools in Moraga! Sophie was a light - and she burns in all of us. Her love and laughter will remain in our hearts always.
My prayers and love to all of you,

To the West and Kukuchka families, kindly accept my deepest condolence.
The first time I saw Sophie was in 2017 when we were boarding the plane from London to Ghana ( she was transiting). Not knowing fate had something great ahead! Sophie was my roommate at the University of Ghana where she came for a semester exchange program. There are countless memories I have of my friend some of which are the daily morning hugs, the love for Ghanaian food and her constant desire to make me laugh. To the parents and sisters of Sophie, I always heard wonderful things about your family!
I love you very much Sophie, then, now and forever ♾

To the West and Kukuchka families,
It was a blessing and a privilege to know Sophie as a colleague and a beloved friend. She excelled in all she did with a great deal of modesty. I am forever grateful for all that she taught me in academics and, more importantly, about life. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all those she touched.
May God continue to watch over you and comfort you.

Sophie travelled to Uganda with classmates from U of S. She was deeply interested in the lives of the people she met.She listened to many painful stories of young girls who wanted to go to school but couldn't due to their lack of means. She assisted one of such girls and enabled her complete high school here. She used to send some money to cater for tuition and books. We were so devastated by her passing! We are however, grateful for the time she was with us and for all the hearts she touched with her own tender, loving heart. God bless her always.

I first became acquainted with Sophie when she enrolled in my Financial Accounting II class in her sophomore year. She immediately impressed me as a super bright and articulate student with an impeccable foundation of personal ethics and values. Later, in her senior year, Sophie enrolled in my Advanced Accounting class, where she once again served as a model student and individual. When she studied in Ghana, she kept me updated with emails and pictures. I felt honored to be part of her correspondence list. Soon after, I had the additional honor of meeting her loving family when my wife and I were invited to her graduation party. I will always remember Sophie with a sense of admiration and deep personal respect, and I thank Bob and Cathy for allowing me to be part of her fond remembrance.
