Obituary of Ray J. Abbey

Ray J. Abbey went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2021. He was the son of Clinton Ray Abbey and Esther P. Abbey. Preceding him in death were his daughters, Karen Mae Sebzda and Carol Ann Lawton. Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Edith, Robert, Byron, Fred, and Betty Jane. Ray is survived by his wife Agnes, his daughter Dorothy (Jim) Rugg, and his son Douglas (Becky), nine grandchildren, Brian Lawton, Antoinette Small, Dennis (Cindy) Sebzda, Nicole (Dan) Thurman, Mark (Jessica) Lawton, Hannah (Irving) Mawolo, Erin Rugg, Paul (Naomi) Abbey, Derrick (Kara) Abbey. He was a devoted grandfather to them and to his great grandchildren, Matthew (Kasey) and Angela Sebzda, James and Grace Lawton, Joshua, Danica, Abbey and Nathaniel Thurman, Paul Jr, Cameron and Alexandra Abbey, Braelynn and Leander Abbey. Also survived by his sister Grace Johnson. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ray worked for National Fuel for 33 years. After retiring he held various jobs: Janitor at Gowanda Assembly of God Church, drove for Carrier Coach, bus monitor for Seneca Nation. He was a hard worker and tremendously loved mowing lawn at the church and on his 6 1/2 acres property. He and Agnes would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on November 17th of this year. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and he was loved by them and many others. Family and friends are invited to attend Ray’s Celebration of Life Service which will be held at the Mill City Assembly of God Church, 167 Mercy Lane Dalton, PA 18414 on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM. A future service will be held at Ray’s hometown from the Collins Center United Methodist Church, Collins, NY on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:00AM. Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Collins Center United Methodist Church.
