Obituary of Neil Williams

Neil Rhodes Williams, 82, of Tunkhannock, PA passed away on Monday, August 16th at Wilkes Barre General Hospital. Neil was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on April 2nd, 1939, and was the middle son to Garfield and Mary Williams. After high school, Neil went on to earn a teaching degree from Glassboro State College (now named Rowan University), in New Jersey and his MBA from the University of Scranton. Mr. Williams was best known in his community as a teacher at Tunkhannock High School for over 30 years where he was recognized as Teacher of the Year. He enjoyed gardening, reading, Penn State Football, the Phillies and the Eagles. After he retired from teaching, it was a common occurrence for Neil to be approached, revered and loved-on by one of his former students when he was out around town with his family. “You were the best teacher I ever had.” “You were my favorite teacher.” “Because of you, I chose a better path in life.” These praises were often heard and fueled Neil knowing that he made such a difference in peoples’ lives. In the last few years of his life, he often told his boys, “I’ve had a really good life”. He certainly did. Neil is survived by his wife Judy, his brother Tom, his eldest son Dr. Neil and his youngest son Dr. David. He is survived by his grandchildren Dakota, Brianna and Seth. Mr. Williams was laid to rest at a family graveside ceremony on Saturday, August 21st at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock.
