Obituary of David Robert McGovern

David Robert McGovern of Lake Winola passed away on October 25, 2021 at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Binghamton NY he is survived by his mother Doris (Finch) Gruen and preceded in death by his father the late Robert McGovern on August 16, 1951, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl Ann (Stage). Dave graduated from Falls-Overfield School in 1969 and from Williamsport Area Community College, (now Penn Tech) in 1972. He worked as a mechanical draftsman for Acker Drill for 10 years, and as a senior product engineer for Inter Metro Industries for 32 years prior to his retirement. Active in his community, Dave was a member of the Lake Winola United Methodist Church, the Fairview Cemetery Association, the Factoryville Sportsmen Club, the Suskie Bass Masters, and was a life member of Lake Winola Fire Co. No 1, where he served as president for the last 27 years. He enjoyed bass fishing and deer hunting with his family and friends. He was a state certified Firefighter II and a member of the National Rifle Association. In 2020, he built 72 blue bird houses from reclaimed barn wood and distributed them throughout the area and beyond. He is survived by his two sons, David M. (Amy) and Matthew R. (Nora); grandson, Brandon (Cessandra); greatgrandchildren, Isaiah and Aurora; sister, Judy Gingher (Carl); niece, Amy; step-sister, Elaine Cosilman. The family would like to thank the Cancer Center Staff at Geisinger CMC and Allied Home Hospice for their love and care. Family and friends are invited to attend Dave’s celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday October 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM from the Lake Winola United Methodist Church, 326 Maple Drive Dalton, PA 18414 with Reverend Robin Fillmore presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the church. Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W.
