Obituary of Gerald T Jenkins

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald Thomas Jenkins passed away suddenly on June 7, 2014. He was born in 1939 on Russell Hill to George and Stella Winnie Jenkins. Jerry spent much of his life on the family farm, always joking that because he was the youngest of ten children he couldn’t run away as fast as the rest. In addition to farming, Jerry also worked as a contractor, and built many houses in Washington Township. He loved this town and the people in it, and often showed that by lending a hand wherever he could, especially when it came to children, whether they were his or not. He was smart enough to debate challenging political theories, loudly and frequently and with great conviction and humor. He was funny enough to liven any party with his quick sense of humor and capability of remembering and reciting mischievous song lyrics. He was strong enough to work hard all his life, cheerfully, and to teach his children to try and match his energy and good temperament. Most of all, he was kind enough to help anyone when they needed a hand; no questions, no judgments. He will be missed by many. Jerry is survived by his wife Carol Jenkins; son James Jenkins; daughter Jennifer Jenkins Douthett and Scott Douthett; daughter Joy Jenkins; son Gerald Jenkins Jr. and Jesse Jenkins; son Dustin Jenkins and Samantha Bourbeau; grandchildren Megan and Derek Snover; Thomas Jenkins; Cassidy Mercer; Emma Douthett; Jamie Jenkins; Bryson Evans; Carly Jenkins and Rory Jenkins; sister Elizabeth Monsey; brother Earl Jenkins and Jo Jenkins; brother Jack Jenkins and Cathy Jenkins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was predeceased by stepson James Dickson; sisters Margaret Claypoole, Jennie Bartron, Hazel Martinson and Kate Monsey; and brothers James Jenkins and Kenneth Jenkins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 4:00 PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc.73 West Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA.
