Ira J. Wittig, of Tunkhannock died Thursday evening, August 21st, in the Sacred Heart Hospice Unit in Dunmore. Born in Wilkes-Barre March 5, 1941 he was the son of the late George and Mildred Smith Whittig. He was a 1961 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and was an avid firefighter serving many local fire departments, and having fought his first fire at the age of 16. He was a certified member of the Pennsylvania State Fire Police. Ira enjoyed word books, the New York Yankees, pro wrestling, and NASCAR especially rooting for Dana Patrick. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lillian M. LaValley. Surviving is his first wife Lorna Mundot of North Carolina, and his present wife of 30 years, Loretta Mullinex. A step son-in-law Raymond LaValley of Tunkhannock, numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are at the convenience of the family.
