Obituary of Barbara Louise Stawinsky

Barbara Louise Stawinsky, 69, of Tunkhannock died Saturday, June 20th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. Born August 6, 1950 in Meshoppen, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Stanley J. Kirk and Anna M. Ciprich-Kirk. She was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School, class of 1968 and was also a graduate of the Mercedian School of Licensed Practical Nursing, class of 1969 and Harrisburg Community College, class of 1973 where she earned her Registered Nurse certification and license. She served the Wyoming County community for 43 years as an exceptional and compassionate emergency room nurse at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock from 1973 to 2016. One of her career specialties at the hospital was training and mentoring junior nursing staff in the emergency room department. Barbara was a passionate and enthusiastic equestrian, raising and riding horses at her West Nicholson farm and serving as a show secretary for the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Reining Horse Association for over 15 years. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Theodore Joseph Stawinsky, in September of 2016. Surviving is a son Theodore J. Stawinsky and his spouse Mark D. Talbert, both of Charlotte, North Carolina. A daughter Jacqueline S. Stawinsky-Chorba of Archbald. 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Michael Stawinsky and his wife Jessica Emily Ringer-Stawinsky of Clayton, North Carolina, Rachael Ann Stawinsky of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Paul Shawn and Amanda Irene Chorba, both of Peckville. Two sisters, Alberta Kirk-Mello of Lewiston, Maine, and Patricia Kirk-Flynn of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Several nieces and nephews. Barbara was also proceeded in death by a sister Virginia Kirk-Bowman and her spouse Maynard “Sam” Bowman, a brother Bernard S. Kirk and a brother-in-law Thomas E. Flynn. Family and friends are invited to attend Barb’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Friday July 24, 2020 at 11 AM from the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E Tioga St, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Reverend Patrick Albert, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday. Those of you who may wish to attend Barb’s funeral service but are unable to can join the family online for a livestreamed service at 11AM on Friday July 24, 2020 at www.sheldonkukuchkafuneralhome.com under Barbara Stawinsky’s tribute page.
