Obituary of Douglas E. Spurlin

Douglas E. Spurlin, 73, of Tunkhannock, passed away on Wednesday December 8, 2021 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Jane Wilson Spurlin. Born in Astoria, New York on June 12, 1948 he was the son of the late Ted Lee and Mary Frances Lacavara Spurlin. Doug was a Truck Driver for Yellow Freight, and a member of the West Babylon Fire Department on Long Island, New York before moving to Pennsylvania. He worked tirelessly protecting his community as a firefighter and EMT, inspiring his firehouse family with his unwavering dedication and determination in even the most difficult of situations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, and was a member of the Falls Lion’s Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Doug Jr. and wife Lisa of Tampa, FL; daughters, Melissa Kalhorn and husband Michael of Babylon, NY, Kerri Quattropani and husband Paul of Farmingville, NY, Jill Schlichting and husband Eric of Mooresville, NC; sisters, Theresa Campagne and Cathy Lewis; grandchildren, Brittany, Michael, Samantha Nicole, Samantha Rose, Amanda, Lexi, Kayla, Nick, Paulie, and Avery. He is lovingly remembered by them as larger than life, not just in his size (which they know he would find amusing) but in his ongoing and abundant compassion, support. and love for his family, friends and community. He was preceded in death by sister, Eileen O’Neal. Family and friends are invited to attend Doug’s celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday December 11, 2021 at 8:30 PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657. A visitation for family and friend will be held from 6:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday.
